Kids are more than willing to stay home from school when they aren’t feeling 100%, but when it means they will miss something they want, they are more than happy to tough it out.
What would you do if you weren’t feeling well, but your mom said that if you missed school, you also couldn’t go to see the play Hamilton that evening?
That is what the student in this story was told, so he found a way to humor his mom while still getting to see the play.
I totally understand wanting to go to the play, but if he really is that sick, he should stay home. If he’s not, then he should be in class. Read through the full story to see what you think of his scheme.
Can’t go to Hamilton if you don’t go to school? Okay.
I’m a Senior in high school (USA) writing this on my phone on my bus ride to school.
My entire family (Mom, Brother, Grandma, and I) got tickets to go see Hamilton today.
I was really excited to go.
This morning, however, i felt horrible. I had a stuffy nose, my throat was completely dry, and I could hardly speak. My mom was already at work, so I texted her that I felt sick.
Well, Mom isn’t wrong.
Just having gotten over her cold a week prior, and not wanting to catch whatever I got, my mom said that if I was too sick to go to school, I was too sick to go to Hamilton.
I know from past experience that there is no way to change my mom’s mind, so I begrudgingly got out of bed, thinking of the best situation for myself.
This is clearly not what Mom meant.
She said that I had to go to school, so I would go to school.
She didnt say I had to be in classes, but would kill me if I had unexcused absences in either of my 2 classes for the day.
I decided that I would sit in the nurse’s office all day, so that I don’t get other people sick, while still going to school, just as my mom wanted.
Hopefully it works out for him, I guess.
I hope this works, as I really want to go to Hamilton, but I need rest before then.
Well, next bus stop is mine, wish me luck!
I can see why he is frustrated, but honestly, his mom is right. If he really is sick, he shouldn’t be at school or at a play. Unfortunately, kids don’t usually care about infecting those around them.

Hopefully, everything worked out for him.
Too funny.

I agree with this commenter.
This kid should definitely not be going to a play. He shouldn’t be at school either.
While he feels like he is getting away with something, he is really just putting other people at risk of getting sick.
