Traveling with friends often results in unforgettable memories- for better or for worse. But nothing quite bonds two people like missed buses, bad decisions, and arguing over Google Maps.
What would you do if you realized the hard way that you and your bestie were NOT compatible travel companions? One girl recently shared a cringeworthy story from her own experience with Reddit. Here’s what she said.
AITA for finally snapping at my friend and leaving her “stranded” for 4 hours in a foreign country?
I 20F have planned a trip with my best friend 20F and it’s our very first time traveling alone for the first time.
I was very upfront about my travel style before hand.
I told her we’d be having 20+ mile days, very little rest, and we’d be on the move 24/7.
Sounds like a trip both parties need to be on the same page for.
She agreed to this.
She also left the itinerary completely up to me.
The second we got here things went south.
Not all friends travel well together.
She’s spent every single second glued to her phone texting her new boyfriend.
When we’re walking, when we’re eating, in our down time, etc.
I have already voiced how this made me feel and her response was “So?” and “Let me live” so I eventually gave up on that.
Seems like it’s not up for discussion with her.
She’s been irritated for a majority of this trip with humidity, buses going wrong, etc and has been taking it out on me by getting snappy, defensive and making general hurtful comments.
She chose to sit out a majority of the parks and hikes because she was “too tired” and then got mad at me for “taking forever” and having to wait for me even though in my eyes, she’s an adult and she chose to not do anything else.
Yesterday, I got off our bus at the wrong stop and she got angry she had to wait at the hotel 15 minutes while I walked.
Her expectations for this trip were definitely different than how it turned out.
She said she wasn’t waiting anymore and disappeared for the whole day.
This threw me over the edge considering I took $100 off her portion of the hotels and also took her to dinner and bought her drinks the night prior despite her attitude towards me.
She said waiting for me at the hotel was her “final straw” after having to wait for me at the hikes and national parks.
Communication doesn’t seem like either of their strong suits.
I pulled a really petty reactive move because when she eventually tracked me down later in the night asking for the keycard to the hotel, I coldly told her I didn’t have it.
I figured she’d just go to the front desk and get a second one, but when I return to the hotel her bags are gone.
I was freaked out trying to get ahold of her for two hours.
That’s a terrifying situation to find yourself in.
I felt guilty for reacting like that.
I apologized profusely, got absolutely zero sleep thinking something bad might have happened to her and her response after all that was “I’m fine”.
She turned her location off, said she felt betrayed/abandoned for the keycard incident and it’s been 24 hours and I have no idea where she is or where she went.
Oh boy, they’re not making it back home friends after this.
I have apologized and taken full accountability for reacting immaturely multiple times now and still nothing.
I had no idea she felt left behind at the national parks because she never communicated any of it to me.
I just genuinely reached my breaking point the other night, we might both be TA to be honest.
How their friendship has even made it this long seems like a miracle. Let’s see if the good people of Reddit could offer any words of wisdom.
The comments were pretty baffled by the nature of the story.
And a few jumped straight to calling the OP out.
But one person held both parties accountable.

Most did not mince words.
And one person dished out the cold, hard truth.
Their ability to compromise must have gotten stuck in customs.
