Starting a new job is hard enough without having your mom unexpectedly show up while you’re trying to work.
One 27-year-old woman is dealing with that after her mother stopped by twice during her first two weeks on the job.
The first visit didn’t bother her much, but the second happened while she was in the back training.
That meant a coworker had to come find her and announce that her mom was waiting.
So, she finally asked her mother to text instead of dropping by unless there was an emergency.
Read on to see what happened next.
AITA for asking my mom f66 to stop randomly showing up at my 27f new job?
I’m 27F, and my mom is 66F. I’m currently in my second week at a new job, and she has already randomly shown up twice! Just to see me and chat.
The first time, I didn’t mind it. Plus, I was on the front floor, so I was able to greet her.
The second time really got to me because I was in the back training when one of my coworkers came to tell me, “Your mom is here.”
At this point, she’s new and still trying to learn.
I had no idea she was coming, so I was completely caught off guard.
I know this probably sounds small, but I’m brand new. I’m still learning everything, meeting people, and trying to come across as competent and professional.
Having my mom randomly show up at work makes me feel like a kid whose parent came to visit them at school, and I’m not. I’m working. I can’t just stop what I’m doing to entertain someone, even if it’s my mom.
Now, her mom isn’t speaking to her.
I sent her a voice note afterward and tried to be nice about it. I told her I appreciate that she wants to see me, but for now, I really need her not to randomly come to my job. I told her she can always text me, but unless it’s an emergency, please don’t just show up because I’m new and still in training.
Now she hasn’t replied to me in two days, which is making me feel kind of guilty.
I know she probably means well, and maybe she’s just excited for me, but I also feel like this is a pretty normal boundary to have as an adult.
AITA?
Oh no! That’s such a difficult situation.
Let’s see if the people over at Reddit think she handled it well or not.
According to this comment, the mom wants her fired.
This is a good suggestion.
Yes, it can be embarrassing.

For this person, that’s just unacceptable.
Her mom probably means well, but she still needs to respect the boundary.
Showing up once is one thing, but doing it twice during her first couple of weeks at a new job is a little much.
Her mom also needs to realize that asking for a text first isn’t rude when she’s trying to train and make a good impression.
Hopefully, her mom gets over being upset and realizes it really isn’t personal.
