Family can be great, but there always seems to be at least one person who just causes all sorts of drama for everyone.

That was the case with the aunt in this story, who kidnapped grandma’s cat. So, the granddaughter threatened to call the cops if she didn’t give it back.

Of course, her aunt is now upset that she made this threat and is sad that she had to give the cat back.

AITA? I cursed my aunt out for trying to steal my grandma’s cat, now I’m being blamed for my aunt’s mental breakdown.

Two weeks ago on my (29 F) 1st wedding anniversary and my very first time in NYC, I got a call from my grandmother back in Louisiana who was distraught.

What kind of person asks to keep the cat they were watching.

She tells me that she asked my aunt, who lives a few miles away for her, to please watch her cat as she was getting prepared for a major surgery and would not be home for a few days.

Apparently, my aunt and uncle agreed to this. After my grandma got home, however, my uncle tells my grandma “well, your daughter (lets call her Nancy) fell in love with the cat and she wants to know can she keep it.”

This would be so awful.

My grandma was heartbroken and explained she’s the only one in that big house of hers now that my grandpa is gone, and that cat is the only thing that keeps her going.

My uncle told her he understood and would bring the cat back the next day. A week goes by. During this time, I didn’t know this. I live in Baltimore, I was prepping for my anniversary trip.

Why is she calling her granddaughter about this?

I was aware of my grandmother getting surgery and recovering, but I didn’t know about the cat. Fast forward to July 18th, my wedding anniversary.

My husband and I are in Manhattan enjoying the sights and heading back to our hotel to get ready for dinner when I got the call from my grandma about her cat being stolen essentially and she was crying.

Her aunt seems like a real piece of work.

Irritated that I had to hear this on my wedding anniversary, and just exhausted with the same old tired stuff my aunt Nancy pulls, I left her a voice message cursing her out threatening to call the police if the cat wasn’t back in my grandma’s possession within 24 hours.

Needless to say, the cat was back in my grandma’s arms. Ever since then, my aunt has apparently been having breakdowns over the cat, saying I was cold and rude and there was no need to threaten the cops.

Some people just can’t help but cause drama.

She apparently kicked out my uncle for reminding her they have 4 dogs and a cat, there’s no need for another.

Then she told my uncle that I caused this turmoil. I was just trying to make sure my grandma got her cat back the best way I could and wanting to enjoy my anniversary trip.

AITA?

No way. She did nothing wrong and was just helping her grandma. If the aunt and uncle were decent people, none of this would have happened.
