Owning something for barely a month is usually enough reason to want to protect it, but one woman found that logic didn’t hold much weight with her entitled sister.
Asked to lend out her brand new car for a weekend road trip involving two young kids, snacks, toys, and all the wear and tear that comes with it, she hesitated, worried about stains, crumbs, and little feet against fresh upholstery.
Her sister brushed off the concern, insisting kids are just kids and framing the hesitation as simple overthinking.
But even after offering to cover the cost of a rental so everyone could be comfortable, she was met with accusations of being cold and “nickel-and-diming” family over something small.

WIBTA if I tell my sister that her kids can’t use my new car as their playground
My sister asked if she could borrow my car for a weekend trip with her two kids, ages eight and ten. I just bought it a month ago and have been pretty careful with it so far.
She knows that kids aren’t the most tidy creatures, so she obviously has some concerns about cleanliness.
The plan would involve them eating snacks in the back seat, possibly playing with toys, and I am worried about stains, crumbs, and little feet kicking the upholstery.
Her sister doesn’t seem to understand where she’s coming from at all.
My sister says I am overthinking it and that kids are just kids, and they will be buckled in safely anyway, so it should not be a big deal.
She tried to compromise, but for her sister, this still isn’t good enough.
I have offered to pay for a rental instead so everyone is comfortable, but she feels like I am being cold and that family should not nickel and dime each other over something small. I am trying to decide whether to hold my ground about the car or just let them take it and hope for the best.
AITA?
Of course her sister is quick to cry “selfish” the second she doesn’t get her way.
What did Reddit have to say?
This woman already offered more than many others would in her situation.
This seemed to go beyond simply needing a car.
This user thinks she’s right to stand her ground.

This sibling clearly doesn’t understand she’s already bending over backwards to help her.
Wanting to keep a month-old car free of juice stains and ground-in crumbs isn’t overthinking, that’s just normal new-car-owner behavior.
The interesting thing here is that she didn’t even say no outright. She generously offered to pay for a rental, which is more than most people would do just to avoid a little family drama.
Calling that cold or nickel-and-diming kind of misses the point. She’s not trying to save money, she’s trying to help her sister the best way she knows how.
Messy kids and new cars just don’t mix well. It’s not rocket science.
