It can be hard to make decisions like this…
But sometimes, it’s necessary!
And, let’s be brutally honest, if you’re planning YOUR OWN wedding, you get to call the shots…even though you might offend some people in the process.
In today’s story, a woman didn’t hold back when she described why she decided that her mom wasn’t allowed to come to her wedding.
Get all the details below and see what you think…
AITA for disinviting my mom to my wedding?
“I, 23F, am getting married next summer to my fiance 24M, and recently I have been getting backlash from my sister and my mom’s family because me and my fiance made the decision to disinvite her from our wedding.
For a little backstory, my mom had me at 19 and we used to have a great bond. However me and my mom started to have a rocky relationship due to her cheating on my stepdad when I was 18.
Good grief…
She blamed me for their divorce as when I found out about her affair, I made her tell my stepdad. About a week after I found out that her boyfriend was a convicted felon and a registered you-know-what offender.
I obviously did not support the relationship or want my younger sisters (13 and 8 at the time) around him, my mom went off on me saying how I betrayed her for taking my stepdad’s side and that I was a horrible daughter.
Since then I have been very low contact with her.
Flash forward to a couple months ago, my fiance proposed to me, and I obviously wanted my mom at my wedding, even with our past.
She laid down the law…
I sat down with her for lunch and explained to her that I wanted her to be there as my mother and to support me, however her boyfriend is not invited. I do not have any relationship him and don’t want him there on mine and fiance’s big day.
She flipped out, saying that she loves him and that its unfair he can’t go, I told her that it’s not unfair. Me and my fiance can choose who we want there and he’s not one of the people we want there.
I then said that if she wants to be there to celebrate her oldest daughter then she will have to suck it up and go one weekend without her boyfriend.
She got upset about that and said that she should be allowed to bring him. I replied that if she insists on taking him then she doesn’t have to go.
She got more upset and left.
Screw these people!
About an hour later I got a text from her and my middle sister saying I’m a horrible person for uninviting her, and that she wants to celebrate her daughters wedding.
My mom also got her sister who she hadn’t talked to in years to tell me that I don’t understand what my mom’s going through and that I should just let her bring her boyfriend. And that I’m going to regret not having my mom there.

This is her big day, and she has every right to do this…
And her mom sounds like a bit of a wacko, if we’re being honest.
There’s a lot to unpack here…
I’d say she made the right decision not letting her mom come to her wedding!
