Some family conflicts start over surprisingly small logistics and spiral fast from there.

A mother had planned a long-awaited outing with her two older children, determined to keep that promise despite a busy week that had already limited their time together.

When her brother unexpectedly needed childcare for a friend’s son, she opted to leave her youngest with her mom instead of rearranging her plans, especially since her mom had already offered to watch both younger kids together.

But that solution didn’t satisfy her brother, who accused her of selfishness for prioritizing a promise she’d already made.

Sometimes you just can’t win, even when you stick to your word.

AITAH for not changing plans I made with my kids to include someone else’s kid.

So my (39F) 10-year-old F and 8-year-old M play Pokemon Go together.

A lot.

So soon came a day everyone was looking forward to.

Yesterday was community day and I promised them I’d take them out to play.

They’ve been looking forward to it all week, and so was I, because I worked all evenings and they just started school, we hadn’t had much time together this week.

But then her brother tried to throw a wrench in their plans.

Friday night my brother calls me at work saying his friend dropped his son (6yo) off at our place for the weekend and I need to watch him Saturday.

I told him I was planning on leaving my 5yo with my mom because he doesn’t like walking so long, and neither does his friend’s son.

My mom had already told him I have plans with 2 of them and she would be here with my 5yo and she can be with the 6yo as well.

The brother soon makes his distaste quite clear.

But apparently I’m a huge AH for not taking them with me.

Now I’m getting bombarded with messages from my brother about how I’m so selfish.

She isn’t a fan of this little temper tantrum at all.

I told him I feel like it’s incredibly entitled of him to try to force me to change my plans because he didn’t want to watch his friend’s kid.

My mom kept the little ones and took them to get a Happy Meal and over to the mall while we were gone.

AITA?

There are plenty of selfish people in this world, but this wasn’t one of them.

What did Reddit have to say?

If anyone’s in the wrong here, it’s her brother.

This kind of behavior really needs to stop.

The call is coming from inside the house.

This user shares their take.

Her mom already had a plan in place before her brother even started complaining, which kind of gives away how unnecessary the whole guilt trip was.

Asking her to bail on a promise to her own kids because he didn’t want to watch a friend’s kid is a pretty bold move.

Calling her selfish for that is rich considering she wasn’t even the one who dropped a random 6-year-old off for the weekend.

If anyone’s selfish, it’s her brother.
