All retail store employees have probably had to deal with inconsiderate and even completely awful customers from time to time, but imagine having someone storm into your store and demand that you get fired when you’ve never even seen this person before. What would you do?
In this story, one cashier is in this situation, and it quickly becomes apparent what’s going on after he calls for his manager. The customer is actually there on behalf of his awful, lying teenage son. Except, the dad doesn’t realize his son is a liar…yet.
Keep reading for all the details.
Apparently dads that are jerks breed sons that are jerks.
I was working cashier at a sporting goods store.
One day some punk kid walked by a rack and for no reason knocked a couple things off and just kept walking.
My coworker looked at him and said “are you gunna pick that up?”
The kid looked at him and said “nah i’m just going to check out now.”
He was really annoyed by this kid.
So after watching this i had to just ring the kid out.
He tried to make small talk with me as though he wasn’t just the biggest jerk ever.
I just glared at him and held back from punching him.
So i printed his receipt, he held out his hand, and i set the receipt on the counter. It was my small form of inconveniencing him as much as possible.
What is this guy’s problem?
Half an hour later this guy comes in and asks if I’m the only one working up front.
I confirm and he starts laying in to me. I’ve never seen this guy before and he says he wants me to call the manager up front because he “wants to watch her fire me.”
At this point he has yet to tell me what I’ve done. He’s only called me vulgar names. (luckily no customers were around.)
Let’s see how the manager handles the situation.
So my manager gets to the front and this guy tells her that his son just got home from our store. He said that I “crumpled up the receipt and threw it on the ground and told him to get the heck out of our store.” He said he wanted me fired on the spot for talking to his son this way.
The manager insists this isn’t possible because I was a very professional worker and she can prove it with the security cameras we have up front.
So after a lot of work on her part she gets the video for this guy.
Not only does the video show the kid knocking the stuff off the shelf it also shows me calmly setting the receipt on the counter.
Let’s see how the dad responded.
The guy made some comment about “setting his boy straight” clearly mad that his kid made him look like an idiot.
He stormed out of the store without so much as an apologetic nod in my direction.
He didn’t recognize how much he wronged me.
He was a jerk but I kind of hope he took out his anger on his son.
At least the dad didn’t press the issue at the store. He should’ve apologized, but leaving is the next best thing.
Thank goodness for security camera footage!
Let’s see how Reddit responded.
This person thinks the customer sounds entitled.
Another person points out that it wouldn’t help anything if the dad is abusive to his son.
I hope the dad punishes his son but doesn’t abuse him. Clearly, the dad was upset because he thought the cashier was mean to his son. Maybe after this experience he’ll realize that his son isn’t always telling the truth.
