Airport parking can be expensive, so a lot of times it’s helpful to find somewhere else to leave your car.
In this story, one man wants to take public transportation to the airport, but in order to do that, he wants to park his car on the street by a friend’s house. However, he needs her to do a small favor for him that she’s unwilling to do.
Now, he’s thinking about ending the friendship, and he’s not sure where to park his car.
Let’s read all about it.
WIBTAH if I parked my car by my friend’s house without her permission?
I have a friend I’ve known for about 15 years, who I have helped many times over the years with free advice, with helping her set up her market stall and take it down, for no pay, etc.
I also helped her save $4,000 off her electric bill one time.
I don’t remember her helping me ever – except letting me know about parties if that counts.
Here’s what he wants to do.
So now, I have a flight leaving at 6 a.m. next week, and I don’t want to use the airport transport bus because it’s about $250 round trip with parking, and I’d like to park my car in front of her house, off to the side, and get the regular bus and train to the airport from there, which only costs about $15.
I’d want to park it the evening before, and I don’t even need her to give me any ride or anything.
I would walk down to the bus stop, and get the bus and train to the airport, and spend the night at the airport, and catch my flight in the morning.
He does need her to do a small favor, though.
My issue, what I would like her to do, is just check to see if I would get a 72-hour parking ticket, and if I did, to ask her to move my car across the street.
There is plenty of parking where she lives. Tons of parking. And my car is really small, it wouldn’t be in her way – could be across the street even.
She doesn’t want to do it, and completely blew me off when I asked; she doesn’t have the 5 minutes it would take.
He doesn’t think he’s asking too much.
I’m really mad and I’m considering blowing off the friendship if she won’t do that after all I’ve done for her.
And the odds of actually getting a parking ticket are like one in a hundred.
I’m only gone for eight days, and the car needs to be there for at least 3 or 4 days before you can even get a ticket.
Now, she does work a lot, 3 days a week, but all I’m asking her to do is to look at the car, and maybe take out five minutes out of one day to move my car across the street, and only if necessary, which can be done at any time. Or her son could do it.
He still wants to park at her house.
I tried to call her, but the phone is not ringing and going straight to voicemail, and she may – or may not – be deliberately ignoring me.
In any case, what I want to do is just to go ahead and park it by her house. It’s a public street, and if she doesn’t want to help me out, then, she’s not gonna help me out.
I’d have to take the chance on getting a ticket and possibly getting towed.
WIBTAH if I did that, and would I be the AH if I blew up the friendship because of that, which is what I feel like doing?
If it’s a public street, then she can’t stop him from parking there. If he doesn’t care if he gets a ticket, then it’s a non issue.
But is it overreacting to end the friendship over this situation?
Let’s see how Reddit responded.

This person would park somewhere else.
Everyone seems to think he should park somewhere else.
His friend shouldn’t be obligated to move his car if she doesn’t want to. Just because he thought it was a good idea doesn’t mean it actually was. He’ll have to park somewhere else.
