Having a mom and a dad who live in separate houses and who don’t get along can make life extra complicated for the children.
In this story, a teenage girl is in that situation, and she temporarily forgot her mom’s rule that her dad is not allowed in the house. It’s not like she invited him in for lunch; however, she did ask him to help her carry some supplies inside the house. They simply set the boxes inside and then left.
That was too much for her mom to handle. Simply seeing the dad on the security camera set her off, and the teen is the one she’s angry at.

AITA for letting my dad in my house
Ok so today my father was dropping me off at my moms house before I went to work.
Along with high school and a part time job I own a small business and needed help bringing my supplies inside.
I had forgotten about moms rule about my dad so he just set my stuff inside and we went to the car to bring me to work.
But her mom saw the security camera footage.
I get a text from my mom (who wasn’t home) asking why she saw him on the security cam going in her house.
I told her I needed help.
And she told me to tell him he was never allowed in the house again.
She ended up following her dad’s advice.
I told him and mentioned to her that he didn’t write the obituary one of my cousins did (ig he was just there during the writing).
And she said she was done with me ‘disrespecting her feelings’
Dad told me to just say it wouldn’t happen again so I did and went into work.
It gets worse.
During my shift I get a text saying that it definitely won’t happen again because she was taking my keys away.
I almost started crying DURING WORK because I thought she was kicking me out (as she has threatened to do many times) and said no but she ‘couldn’t trust me anymore’
For reference I’m a 17 year old girl. I don’t drink or smoke and I’m on the honor roll at school. I’m not a bad kid.
I basically said ‘ok then you will have to be home when I need to get in’
Her mom doesn’t seem very understanding.
And she sends me this whole paragraph about how her life doesn’t revolve around me anymore and if she’s not there and I need to drop off my stuff I can just leave it on the porch.
Ya know, my hundreds of dollars worth of my business supplies and technology.
So if it rained or got stolen I would be screwed.
She explains what really made her upset.
When I got in the car she immediately snapped at me and took my keys and said I was being an jerk about it when in reality I was just annoyed she was trying to take my whole lanyard after I took the keys off and gave them to her.
Am I the jerk here?
Honestly I don’t care about the keys I just don’t want my hundreds of dollars of supplies to possibly get stolen. I’ve spent so much on my small business.
So, her mom apparently has a rule that her dad can’t enter the house. She forgot. He forgot. And it sounds like he barely stepped inside. It’s too bad they forgot the rule for a few seconds, but “it won’t happen again” should’ve been good enough. Of course, I don’t know the history between the parents.
Let’s see how Reddit responded.
This is an interesting idea.
Another person is on the mom’s side.

But this person thinks it was too much to take away the keys.
I understand the mom not wanting the dad in the house. She has the right to set that boundary. She also has the right to be upset that her daughter broke that rule. However, taking away the keys isn’t practical.
