Being in a hurry doesn’t give you the right to push people around, especially when a child could get hurt.

One mother was finishing up at the grocery store while her ten-year-old daughter helped bag their groceries.

She was just getting her receipt when an older woman behind her shoved her cart forward, sending the mother’s cart straight into her daughter. Thankfully, the little girl wasn’t hurt, but when her mom called the woman out, she just rolled her eyes.

Then, when the mother asked her to apologize, the woman brushed her off again. By that point, she’d had enough and called the woman an old hag on her way out.

Now, some of her friends think she went too far, but her adult son says the woman deserved it.

Read on to see what you think about this whole thing.

AITA for “yelling at” an old lady in the grocery store?

My 10-year-old daughter and I stopped at the grocery store this afternoon, and while we were waiting to check out, a woman (like late 60s) gets in line behind us.

My daughter and I unloaded our cart onto the belt, and then my daughter went around in front of the cart to start bagging our groceries.

I pay and reach to the cashier, who is handing me my receipt, and as I’m doing this, the lady behind me shoves her cart into mine with force and says, “You need to move your cart.”

After seeing how the woman responded, she couldn’t just let it go.

She’d shoved her cart into mine hard enough that my grocery cart moves several feet forward and hits my daughter. My daughter was fine but very startled.

I turned to the lady and said, “Wow, you must be in some rush to push a shopping cart into a little kid.”

And the lady looks at me, looks at my daughter, and rolls her eyes.

Now, I could’ve just let this go, but I didn’t, so I guess here’s where I could possibly be the *******.

Then, the woman did it again.

If she had just apologized or something, I would’ve dropped it, but after she rolled her eyes, I said, “You know, it would be polite to apologize after pushing a cart into my kid.”

And she rolls her eyes again and says, “Whatever.”

At this point, I’m pretty angry but wasn’t going to scream or swear at her or anything like that because that would’ve just scared my daughter, so I take my groceries, and as I start to walk away, I said, “Have the day you deserve, you old hag.”

Some friends think I went too far and should’ve ignored her because she was old, and my adult son thinks she deserved it and has had plenty of years to learn some manners.

AITA?

Eek! Most parents probably wouldn’t have let it go that easy either.

Let’s check out what the readers over at Reddit have to say about this situation.

According to this comment, any parent would be upset.

Here’s someone who may not have been so nice.

This reader thinks the woman is old enough to know better.

Yet another reader who thinks she acted very reasonably.

What was she thinking?

She could’ve hurt the little girl, so the least she could’ve done was apologize.

Sure, the mother probably shouldn’t have called her names, but it’s hard to blame her for getting upset when the woman showed absolutely no remorse.

And being older doesn’t give someone a free pass to treat people like that. She should’ve learned some manners by now.
