They’re often overlooked and overused, but did you know that feet are also misunderstood? Podiatrists and stars of TLC’s ‘My Feet Are Killing Me,’ Brad Schaeffer and Sarah Haller would like to change that by debunking 11 common myths about our feet.
While some are fairly obvious, like “Athlete’s foot doesn’t only affect athletes,” others may surprise you and can help establish healthy feet habits. For instance, toenail fungus doesn’t just come from nail salons. We also tend to ignore bigger structural problems with our ankles and feet, adopting the attitude, “if I can walk on it, it’s no big deal.” Schaeffer and Haller strongly disagree. If you think you have a broken toe, sprain, or other injury, seek the advice of a doctor as soon as possible. The issue may not be an emergency, but broken bones need to heel correctly, and some problems – like warts, bunions, or sprains – may require a medical procedure.
