Explore New York City’s Lost and Abandoned Subway Stations

YouTube video player

The New York City subway system opened in 1904 and today more than 5 million people use the system every day.

In this video, host Ryan Socash gives viewers a history lesson about how people got around NYC before subways, the first underground train and the creation and development of the iconic transportation system, and why there are abandoned New York City subway stations.

The City Hall station was known for its beauty but was one of the least used in the entire subway system and was eventually abandoned in 1945. The 91st Street subway station was a six-track station that actually never opened and closed in 1959 and is considered a “ghost station.” And the Worth station closed in 1962 and today is abandoned and covered in graffiti.
