There’s a Wave in Australia Called Cyclops and It Looks Incredible

“Cyclops has its eye on you” is an awesome sequence, shot by Tom Jennings, of a terrifyingly beautiful wave off western Australia’s southern coastline called Cyclops. Surfline adds:

It’s cool how this clip starts out looking like nighttime footage, then you realize it’s actually just shadowing from the lip. It’s cool how the slow-motion effect makes you believe this is a normal ocean wave, then you realize it takes a fully strapped jet-ski, hard-earned local knowledge and otherworldly courage to access it. It’s cool how the spot is named after a mythical monster, then you realize the metaphor is quite accurate.

That’s all that’s cool. The rest is intensely, swelteringly… terrifying. That’s probably why no one’s riding it.

For those curious, the perfectly matched audio track is ‘War Song’ by Eerie Serpent.
