A lot of us spend a good majority of our days reading but most people don’t think about HOW we actually read.
On the PBS show It’s Okay to be Smart, Dr. Joe Hanson and Dr. Erica Brozovsky talked about how we process reading in our brains.
Brozovsky says humans may have repurposed some existing brain functions for new uses. This theory is called “neural recycling” and basically means that our brains can translate information that is new to us into something recognizable.
