Incredible Timelapse Shows 300 ft Tall Iceberg Drift Perilously Past Small Village

An amazing timelapse shows a massive, 11 million-ton iceberg drifting past the small Greenlandic village of Innaarsuit. Authorities urged residents near shore to evacuate as fears of calving ice could lead to huge waves and potentially flood the tiny island.

The small settlement of 169 inhabitants watched in fear as the lumbering mass lurched slowly past. In the additional video embedded below you can see a large chunk of the iceberg calving into the water.

The incident comes weeks after scientists at New York University shot and released a video of a massive iceberg breaking free from a glacier in eastern Greenland in June.
