What Berlin’s Famous Frederick Street Was Like in 1896

 

In this fascinating glimpse into life in the 1800s, we see very early film of the Friedrichstraße in Berlin, Germany outside the Panopticum in the summer of 1896.

This is a high quality remastered print from the Lumière archives and some of the earliest available footage of Germany. Filmmaker Guy Jones slowed down the footage to a natural rate and added in sound for ambiance.
