Bora Bora is perhaps the closest we’ll get to Heaven on Earth. Located about 260 kilometers (160 miles) northwest of Tahiti, Bora Bora is part of the Society Islands of French Polynesia, an overseas territory of France claimed in 1843.
With a land area of 44 sq km (16.9 sq miles) and a population under 10,000, Bora Bora’s economy is entirely driven by tourism. Distinguished by the most incredible blue lagoon ever seen, the flow of tourists from around the world will likely never cease.
Volcanic in origin, Bora Bora’s rugged main island (and smaller surrounding islands) are completely draped in coral reefs, further enhancing the mystique of this magical place. Below you will find 25 stunning photographs of Bora Bora. Visiting French Polynesia in my lifetime is now a goal I plan on achieving!
