Crescent-Shaped Home with Views of Mt. Fuji

Designed by Shigeru Ban Architects in 2008, Crescent House in Shizuoka, Japan is a beautiful crescent-shaped vacation home that features views of Mount Fuji.

The elevated one floor house features two bedrooms on opposite ends with a living room, dining room and kitchen in the middle. Guests enter the property through a glass-enclosed staircase at ground level. Each room is separated by a partition with a huge cantilevered roof above that is deepest in the middle section (the living room).

In fact, the living room is so deep that the room required an additional column to prevent the roof from bending. To address this need, Shingeru Ban used the chimney of the fireplace as the ‘column’ to keep the clean and minimal aesthetic of the home.
