Mexican creative studio Golpeavia was hired to make a portrait of world-famous chef René Redzepi for the cover of ClasePremier magazine. Rather than simply do an illustrated portrait, the agency decided to pay homage to the chef by creating his portrait out of food (and some table settings) and then photographing the result.

You can see the process from the original sketch to the setup and eventual cover below. It’s a neat portrait collage and made for a very memorable magazine cover!

René Redzepi is a Danish chef and co-owner of the two Michelin star restaurant Noma in Copenhagen, Denmark. For the last three years in a row, Noma has been selected as the Best Restaurant in the World by Restaurant Magazine.

Redzepi was recently listed by TIME as one of the 100 most influential people in the world and he was named the International Chef of the Year at the Lo Mejor de la Gastronomia conference in San Sebastian, Spain in 2008.

At the bottom of this post you can find an interesting video about Chef Redzepi and his philosophy on food and ingredients.
