Built in 1955, Frank Lloyd Wright’s classic hemicycle house, TIRRANNA, has just been listed for sale by Houlihan Lawrence for a cool US$8 million. Located in New Canaan, Connecticut, “Tirranna” (an Aboriginal word meaning (‘running waters’), sits above a waterfall surrounded by 15 acres of natural beauty.
Just shy of 7,000 sq ft, the 7 bedroom, 8.5 bathroom home has double master baths, a rooftop observatory with telescope, an interior courtyard, caretakers suite, guest studio, pool, tennis court, large barn and sculpture paths through the woods leading down to the river.
Original gardens and plantings around the property were designed by Frank Okamura and Charles Middeleer. Okamura was also the landscape architect for the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
According to Architect Magazine, the property was purchased about 20 years ago by philanthropist Ted Stanley and his wife Vada as their primary home.
