I can imagine that life is a little bit more difficult when you work the night shift. If you’re a night owl, the night shift might be a dream come true, but getting a good night sleep won’t always be easy.
Imagine working the night shift, and you’re trying to sleep during the late morning hours. What would you do if you heard loud construction noise outside? Would you put in some earplugs and try to ignore it, or would you ask the construction workers to keep it down?
In this story, one renter was in this exact situation and chose the second option. Now, he’s wondering if that was the wrong thing to do. Did he mess up, or was his request really no big deal?

AITA for asking a contractor to keep it down a notch?
It’s right at 10AM and I work nights.
10 AM is when the landscapers and maintenance workers are allowed to make noise.
Completely reasonable and I wear earplugs to drown out the the majority of it.
But it got even louder.
This one maintenance contractor backed his van right up to the curb where the apartments face.
He was about 10 feet away from the building and started mixing some spackling with two very large metal scrapers. Like straight up slamming them together rapidly and it sounded like he was right on my balcony.
It was so loud it was echoing through the parking lot.
This went on for about 5 minutes and it didn’t seem like it was going to stop.
He called out to the guy and kind of regrets it.
I came out on my balcony and said verbatim,”Dude. DUDE! Can you bring it down a notch? People are sleeping.”
He said,”I’m sorry.”
And I replied with a thank you and now I’m laying in bed feeling like a jerk because he was just trying to do his job but it was unbearably loud even through my earplugs.
It seems like no harm done.
He moved his work van farther out in the parking lot and the back of the van isn’t facing several peoples’ apartments.
I also can’t hear him anymore.
AITA for telling him to keep the noise down?
The construction worker probably wasn’t expecting anyone to be working at that time of day. It sounds like he was really considerate once he realized he was disturbing someone. So, I think it’s really a nonissue.

Well, to be fair, OP didn’t hire him.
The majority of readers seem to agree with my thoughts that this night shift worker didn’t do anything wrong. He was trying to sleep. He asked the guy to keep it down. The guy moved without making a fuss, so he probably didn’t mind moving too much. No drama.
There’s no need to overthink it.
