Nothing Was Done Properly at Work All Day — He Had to Vent About It and He Did

All jobs can be frustrating at times, but some are much worse than others.

When you have a bad day at work, it is usually no big deal. But when the bad day is caused by incompetent coworkers and terrible managers, it can be intolerable.

That is what happened to the worker in this story, so he decided to go on a rant about what he experienced.

It is quite a rant, but I like it. Read through the full rant below and see what you think.

Boss wants me to come in on Christmas eve.

I work inbound in retail. Meaning, today I was at the store by 3:30am.

Some people just love being lazy.

We unloaded a 2.6k piece (# of boxes inside) semi-trailer by 7:45am with 2 new employees.

One of which I actually had to say ‘you can help sort those boxes down there’ because they’re pushing stuff down the line and then STANDING THERE staring into the trailer like the boxes they pushed behind them are magically going to sort themselves onto carts at the front of the line.

This person is clearly frustrated, and I don’t blame them.

Like, the number of people I’ve come into contact with who show up to a job to make more work for their peers is mind boggling, you’re here to work.

So pay attention and do the work that needs done so someone else doesn’t have to do YOUR job AND theirs the next day ahhh.

If someone can’t do the job, they will be fired.

You’ll only be able to use the ‘I’m new, I wasn’t trained’ excuse for so long before we assume you’re actually too slow to learn how to work in retail, its happened and we will ‘performance you out’.

You get asked why it’s taking you so long to get the hang of xyz, the managers give you tips and pointers on how to do better, if you can’t figure it out, they term you.

Ask for help when you need it.

If you don’t know what you’re doing than say that when we ask so you can be prepared.

Telling us you know what you’re doing and then wasting 10min lingering in an aisle because you don’t know how to find the items location using your zebra is not going to fly for very much longer.

This person is tired of the laziness.

I’m literally watching you do it bud…ask for help and we will help you, we want you to be successful because then we are more successful as a team.

Acting like you’re working when you’re actually wasting the teams time and being disrespectful to the work we have to get done isn’t going to fly.

Another one is on their way out.

I’m waiting for this one problematic employee who is on their way out the door to be fired.

You’re supposed to be their replacement. Don’t make me hate you for doing similar stuff.

This person has a great work ethic.

Then we get together and shelf all of toys and sporting goods because its December and those items are priority for my team, then we break off and push our individual sections.

I’m scheduled to leave by 12 noon, but I want to try to get all of my section shelved because if I don’t get it done, it will be put onto someone else to finish tomorrow.

He is never going to get out of there on time.

I have 2 hours left to sort and shelf 36 boxes with smaller items inside. I’m determined to get it done in the time I have left.

I’m sorting through my 2nd box when my head manager calls me to reshelve go backs – items that’ve been returned or misplaced at the cash register.

Nobody wants to pick up any slack.

Takes me 45minutes sorting through items that are A.) Defective or B.) Arent sold by our store. (Like, the people up at the registers with the printers and the defective bins couldn’t have taken care of that before I even wasted my time walking it back and forth? Getting so tired of lazy coworkers)

I get back to my first cart of 16 boxes with 1hr left in my shift, feeling defeated but recognizing that plans change and I’ll have to stay late today to get everything done – which was also okay.

Dealing with this would get old quick.

I’m telling myself I’ll finish these 16, backstock them, and then head out for the day – I didn’t want to be there till 4pm, having to take a second lunch, etc….

I walk away from my boat to clear the 7th box. I’m trying to make space on my boat because the top level is double stacked with a different department on it (kitchen, I’m in stationary) and I’m trying to move them down to the middle level so I can shelf the department I’m in first.

He still has a lot to do.

I had to make space on my cart to get the other boxes down. I have 3 boxes full of unlocated backstock, 1 trash box, and another box open for my true backstock.

So, I have 5 boxes that I can’t break down, and I need to set them somewhere.

This seems to be a smart way to work.

I’ve put what I was actively using on the base deck of an aisle next to my cart, I put the full boxes of backstock on the bottom of my cart because I had room so they’re not on the floor creating a potential liability hazard.

But they’re also still open and available for me to get in and out of for quick use. Like, I’m actively working out of them.

Management is making things even worse.

I get back to my boat and a manager has put the boxes I had set on a base deck out of the way back into the spaces on my cart where I was going to set the double stacked top boxes down so I could shelf the section I was in first, then move over to the other area.

I was already flustered. I’m doing a decent job. If you don’t like how I get the work done, you can do it yourself, you’re paid salary and have to be here, I do not.

Now they want him to come back.

So, I threw my last box onto the cart, walked it to the backroom with the other leftover freight and punched out a half hour after my scheduled time to leave.

I get a text on my phone 20min after I get home. ‘Hey, do you think you could come in tomorrow to finish the kitchen boxes?”

Good, he shouldn’t work any extra.

Big fat no. Absolutely not. I would’ve finished them today had I been left alone to, oh, idk, get them done. Instead go-backs and making that point to me was more important.

I’m half tempted to start taking wet floor signs and putting them down on either side of the opening where this occurs so that there is a visual warning of hazards.

His boss will never be happy.

In an attempt to completely block the aisle walkway. I bet my boss would find that problematic too.

‘People can’t walk through this area when it’s like this.’

You can read the frustration in his words.

‘I KNOW! THATS THE POINT! I’m just trying to do my job……

But not tomorrow. Tomorrow I’ll be having dinner with my family because today was terrible.

This guy just hates his job and he should be looking for something different. Wow, what a mess.

This manager would love to have someone like this on his team.

I agree with this commenter.

This is a simple reply.

He is asking him to come in, not telling him.

This person also hates new employees.

This guy is a little too stressed out for a job like this. He needs to take a step back and just focus on his job and let the rest of the people fail.

Sometimes caring too much can make a simple job a lot harder than it needs to be.
