I Walked Out Of Work During The Middle Of My Shift
I work in food service. It is always busy and crowded, but that was never the issue.
The issue is the sense of entitlement and smugness of a lot of the folks that come here.
It is PA after all, so you guys know how the people there are.
My first mistake was being too helpful.
This employee couldn’t take it any longer.
I was being kind and helping out others with tasks. I was also sucking up to my managers.
Now, I am abused and overwhelmed. I am constantly moving back and forth.
I work with people pushing 30 and 40. They gossip like dumb school girls.
They are driving me insane, along with my micromanaging and unhappy managers. There is also the usual bunch of entitled people.
She decided to quit right then and there.
I decided this was not worth the minimum wage.
Before I left, I tried clearing out as many orders as I could. I did not want to leave my coworkers hanging.
After that, I dipped. I smoked a ciggy (I quit), thought everything over, clocked out, and grabbed my stuff. I walked right out the back door.
I do not regret it. I only regret leaving my coworkers with that amount of work. That is about it.
That kind of environment can wear anyone down fast.
OP tried to be helpful and did the best she could, but it sounds like she finally reached her limit.
At the end of the day, your peace of mind matters more than any chaotic shift.
