Your online presence is supposed to be your choice; however, in this day and age, maintaining your privacy might cost you your employment.

This man has always been private about his life on social media, but in his past jobs, the staff have been pressured to appear on reels and videos to promote the business. Sick and tired of the pressure to conform, he rants on Reddit about how cringeworthy this practice is.

Whether you relate to him or not, this employee makes some excellent arguments against employers who use their staff to promote their business online. Read the full story below.

The pressure for a social media presence within workplaces have made things worse

The last couple of jobs I’ve had, the staff had been HEAVILY encouraged to participate in Reels and TikToks to feign an aura of “we’re like a family in a sitcom, laugh with us,” and it irks me to my core.

Obviously, no one can force anyone to participate in these shallow displays.

But the constant peer pressure is enough to make most people want to slam their heads into their desks.

I’m a private person; nobody sees my face on any platform unless I’m friends with or family to them.

I’m either no longer the demographic that is able to relate to this type of content, or this stuff really is just in bad taste and cringe-inducing.

Either way, all I know is I’m tired.

If you let it, your work will slowly infiltrate your private life and there’ll be nothing you can do about it. That’s just where technology is going.  Employees need to stand their ground and set healthy boundaries so they keep their personal life separate from work.

Here’s what other people in the comments section have to say about this.

This is how it’s done.

Inauthentic reels usually backfire anyway.
