Standards And Ethics

Our Mission

At TwistedSifter, our mission is to educate, entertain, and inform. We are fascinated, inspired, and moved by the most interesting content on the internet, and we strive to sift, sort, and summarize the best of the web for our readers. Reader trust is essential to what we do. The following are the editorial standards that guide our journalism. We are always looking to improve and acknowledge that we aren’t always perfect. Our writers and editors make tough editorial decisions every day, and the most important calls rarely have obvious answers.

Sourcing And Fact-Checking

We hold our reporting to a high standard of accuracy. Editors and writers are expected to thoroughly research and verify claims before publishing. We do not rely on user-edited platforms like Wikipedia or IMDb as primary sources. Acceptable sources include direct interviews, legal documents, expert research, academic journals, databases, and properly attributed reports from trusted news organizations.

Embeds and Social Media

When covering internet culture, we strive to embed original content directly from platforms like TikTok, Facebook, Twitter/X, and Instagram rather than re-uploading media. In cases where identifying a social media user is inappropriate—but the story remains newsworthy—we will use screenshots with the individual’s name and likeness blurred to protect their privacy.

Originality and Plagiarism

TwistedSifter does not aggregate or copy-paste content. No material may be copied in its entirety without providing substantial original commentary, criticism, or transformative journalistic value.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

TwistedSifter’s content is researched, written, and edited by real humans. We do not use generative AI to write or formulate our articles. We believe that covering human drama, culture, and science requires human empathy and editorial judgment.

Editorial Independence

TwistedSifter is an independent digital publisher. Our editorial decisions are completely walled off from our advertising partnerships. Advertisers do not have any influence over what we cover or the opinions expressed by our writers.

Corrections Policy

We always strive for transparency and accuracy. For ongoing stories, we will add new information as it becomes available, marked with a clear timestamp. When a factual error is made, we will correct it promptly and append an editor’s note to the article. For more information on how we handle errors or to submit a report, please review our full Corrections Policy.
