He Fixed His Coworker’s Jeep for Free—But She Ignored His Advice and Blamed Him for $1,500 in Damage

Helping a coworker out with a car repair sounds simple enough, right? Wrong.
One man spent five hours in brutal heat replacing brake pads on a coworker’s lifted Jeep, a favor he did for free, mind you.
After taking a look, he sternly warned his friend to get the alignment checked since he’d never worked on custom wheels before.
She said she would, but instead drove around town for over a week before finally taking it in. By then, the damage was already done.
Now he’s the one being asked to foot a $1,500 repair bill for her negligence.
You’ll want to keep reading for this one.
AITAH for something being messed up on a friend’s car after doing the brakes?
A couple of weeks ago, I changed the brake pads on my car, and a coworker/kind of a friend said she needed hers done and asked if I could help her, to which I said okay.
I have changed brake pads many times on my cars, which have been all smaller, stock cars.
She has a Jeep Wrangler with a 4 inch lift and custom wheels.
So against his better judgement, he decided to help his friend with this request.
I had her order the brake pads and went and spent 5 hours in 120 degree heat changing them.
After I was done, I drove it and heard a noise, and she told me it had always made that noise and was from the lift. I’m still unsure if the noise was already there or not.
The next day I asked her if everything was alright, and she told me it was.
He wanted her to thoroughly explore the issue, so he gave his advice on what to do next.
I told her that same day to take it to Discount Tire to have her alignment checked because I had never done work on anything custom and wanted to make sure the tires were correctly aligned and weighed.
She told me she would.
But his friend quickly went back on her word.
She then spent over a week driving all around town before she took it in 8 days later, over which time I asked her daily if everything was still okay and she said yes.
Come to find out the front right wheel was not set right and messed something up, and it’s now going to cost $1,500 to fix.
Of course, she isn’t taking a lick of accountability for her role in this.
She is now trying to guilt trip me into paying for it and saying “I trusted that you knew what you were doing” and things like that.
I didn’t get anything out of doing this for her.
He spells out the cold, hard facts.
She paid me no money, and in fact I actually spent my own money needing to buy a tool to get a stripped bolt off (it was already stripped, I did not do it).
AITAH for not thinking I should need to pay for this, as I told her immediately to take it to get the alignment checked and she waited 8 days driving all around town before she took it in?
This guy is definitely in the clear.

His friend is the one foolish enough to ignore his good advice.

This is 100% his friend’s fault.

From the start, this man was 100% honest with his friend about what needed to be done with her car.
Her quickly turning around and blaming him for something that was completely preventable is what makes this story so frustrating.
This wasn’t a case of bad advice ignored by accident. It was a clear heads-up, repeated check-ins, and eight days of careless driving around.
Free labor comes with limits, and this friend just ran right into them.
