I (19M) was in an Uber back to my college campus the last week of school with a bunch of girls after a date party.

One of the girls, who I was friends with and I knew had a crush on me, mentioned Harry Potter.

She was a little tipsy, as were all the girls.

And I was the only sober one. I had a final the next day.

This young man was misunderstood by one of the girls.

I went around guessing people’s houses after proudly declaring myself a Ravenclaw.

When I got to her, I guessed wrong, and she said she was a Slytherin, basically the evil house in the books.

I laughed and said that a lot of people say they are Slytherin because they want to be different.

What I meant, but didn’t say, was that Slytherins in the books are all rude and elitist.

She got quiet, but I thought it was because she was tired, and we got back to campus shortly after.

He learned that the girl cried because of his comment.

Fast forward to now, she has been really short with her responses to me over the summer.

I asked her roommate, who was in the Uber, what was up.

Apparently, me telling her that made her cry, and she still is mad at me over it.

Was what I said really that bad?
