Her Neighbor Won’t Stop Prying Into Her Family’s Life — She’s Reached Her Limit

Some people just can’t take a hint, huh…?

You try to be nice, you try to be patient, and what happens…?

These folks take things too far and creep you out!

That’s exactly what this woman is dealing with and let’s just say that she’s not happy about recent developments with her neighbor.

Get all the details below and think about how you’d handle this situation.

Extremely nosey and invasive neighbour.

“Two years ago me and my partner bought our first house together.

The house was a great shell but needed A LOT of work doing inside which was a big task we weren’t sure we wanted to take on. However, the house came with a huge and beautiful garden which overlooked the moors and was extremely peaceful.

Sounds like a great set-up!

This alone sold us on the house as we both have stressful jobs and love relaxing in the garden with a good book and our dog to wind down. Our house is the end of two sets of semi-detached houses and so there are four huge back gardens next to each other. We only have one next to us being the end one.

When we got the keys we didn’t actually move in for months as the whole house had to be knocked back to the brick and completely redone. Between us and my in laws, we would be in our garden a lot using it as a workshop essentially.

Our neighbour is a man in about his 60s and lives alone with two daughters who visit. He still works and still gets out and about. Whenever we were in the garden sorting stuff for the house he would always come out and chat.

At first we never thought anything of this. Seemed like we had a nice neighbour who was just trying to build a relationship with new neighbours and asking how the house renovation was going, etc.

Things have changed…for the worse…

However, this has now slowly been getting worse over the last year, especially as the house renovation is now done and we only go in the garden to actually just relax, have friends and family over or read.

We started noticing our neighbour becoming a bit nosey and intrusive when he started coming out of his way to come talk to us, even if it meant he was shouting across the street to us, only coming outside because he’d seen us and as soon as we went inside, he did too and making comments such as ‘I noticed your car hasn’t been leaving until later this week, is it because you’re on work training?’.

We would have friends and/or family over in the back garden and he would come out into his back garden and interrupt us all and start a conversation and not leave even when the conversation has ended and we’ve gone back to talking to whoever we have over, which would then be awkward.

This is pretty creepy…

It started to feel like he was genuinely monitoring all our moves and needed to be involved and know about everything and anything we were doing.

I’ve even caught him peeping round his front door when I’ve returned home, watching what I’m doing.

I’m now currently heavily pregnant and off work for a year so spending more time in the garden than ever.

Every single time I now step into the back garden, the second I sit down my neighbour is instantly out, hanging over our fence and stares at me until I acknowledge him and if I don’t acknowledge him because I genuinely haven’t seen him, he makes his presence known by completely disrupting whatever I’m doing and starting a conversation.

Once the conversation ends, he doesn’t leave and just hangs over the fence staring and watching.

This is extremely uncomfortable for me.

It doesn’t matter what time of day it is, whether it’s 8 am, afternoon or late evening, the MINUTE I come into my garden, he’s out and badgering me, bombarding me with questions that he’s already asked me before so it’s like it’s an excuse just to talk, then doesn’t leave and just hangs over the fence staring.

What does this guy want…?

He also does it with my partner and in laws when they’re over but nowhere near as much as he does with me.

I genuinely do not know how to handle this situation. If he was coming out into his garden to do something, had a quick hello and chat then carried on with his task and I carried on with mine then I really wouldn’t mind. But he comes out just because he’s seen me and doesn’t leave. I have to go back inside to get rid of him and as soon as I go back in, he does too.

I’ve tried chatting to my in laws and asked them not to tell him anything about us (they help out with the garden maintenance a lot as they’re retired) because he then uses that info to hound me the next time. I’ve tried explaining how uncomfortable he now makes me as he is monitoring our every single move and being extremely invasive.

Not everyone thinks this is such a big deal…

My MIL seems to get it but my FIL doesn’t quite get why it’s stressing me out so much. I’ve also tried just ignoring him, sitting facing with my back to his garden, covering my face with my book so to him I haven’t seen him, wear headphones even if I’m not listening to music just to look like I’m busy and none of it works.

He will come out and stand there staring until it’s physically impossible to ignore him as he’ll do something to get my attention as he will not move until I’ve acknowledged him. Then once I have, he just doesn’t leave.

This is just a brief summary of what he’s like, but how many comments he’s made that shows he genuinely tracks every single thing we do and how much he harasses us in our garden is unreal. I’m getting myself more and more worked up about this is I’m having a year off and obviously want to bring my child into the garden as much as I can without being hounded and watched.

I feel like I need to say something to the neighbour rather than just make the fence higher (we both own the fence anyway so I can’t do anything without his permission) so he understands he’s being invasive and intrusive, but I also don’t want conflict with my neighbours.

I’ve tried talking to people about it for advice and they’ve all been as stumped as I have as he’s in his own garden so how do I word it and what can I do about it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!”

This guy is taking things way too far…

No doubt about that!

And he legitimately sounds pretty creepy.

She needs to put her foot down and tell this neighbor to back off!
