Hotel Worker Processed the Booking Flawlessly, But Her Colleague Questioned Every Step

Some people will doubt the way you handle your work.

The following story involves a hotel employee who received a call from a fourth-party travel agent wanting to verify a reservation.

The agent repeatedly questioned whether the charge would work, despite her doing the same task every day.

After completing the payment without any issue, she was left frustrated by how little confidence he had in her expertise.

Confirmation… by a fourth party travel agent

I got a call today. And I’m just so sick and tired of people thinking they know my job better than I do.

Me: Elwood City Hotel, how can I help you?

Guy: I’d like to confirm a reservation.

Guy gives me all the info. It’s for tomorrow, which becomes relevant later.

I find the reservation and confirm it like he asks.

This hotel employee told the agent that the charge hasn’t gone through yet.

Guy: Okay, can you tell me if the virtual card was successfully charged?

Me: Uh, so are you the guest, or are you calling from the third-party booking site through which the reservation was made? Namely, Abloga.

Guy: I’m an agent. I want to make sure there are no problems with the Abloga charge. Has it already been charged?

Me: Well, no, it hasn’t. I can certainly do it now, but it’s almost never a problem.

We normally charge it the day of the reservation since Abloga only lets you charge it a day or so in advance.

But it’s no skin off my back to charge it a day early. It’s basically just clicking a button.

She informed the agent that she does this work every day, so she knows what usually happens.

Guy: Oh, you’d be surprised how often there are problems.

Me: Well, I do this literally every day. And 99.99% of the time, there is no problem.

Guy (surprised): Oh.

Me, after clicking the button: The charge went through. Have a nice day!

She realized that the agent must be doing something wrong.

I mean, as much as I hate Abloga with a fiery passion, this is a company whose entire business model is dependent on the successful charging of temporary card numbers.

If you’re a fourth-party travel agent who’s constantly running into payment problems, and you feel the need to babysit those fundamental transactions, maybe you’re doing something wrong.

Just maybe. Sorry, I had a day. I had to rant.

OP honestly had every right to be annoyed after being questioned about something she handles daily.

The agent may have been trying to prevent a payment problem.

But repeatedly doubting someone who does the process every day comes across as unnecessary.

Good thing the charge went through exactly as she expected. And I think the way she said, “Have a nice day,” was the best comeback!
