“She Refused to Lift a Finger”: Sister’s Shocking Behavior Turns Mom’s Recovery Outing Into a Nightmare

Magnific/Reddit
Caring for a loved one often requires teamwork and shared responsibility.
In this story, a woman planned a simple outing for her mom after she recovered from a stroke.
However, her sister refused to help with any part of it. Thus, all the physical effort and planning fell on one person.
This imbalance left her feeling overwhelmed and questioning what’s fair moving forward.
Check out the full details below.
AITA for not wanting someone to have all the fun without some responsibility
Mom had a stroke. Getting out of the house is a big task. She is bed bound to a wheelchair.
Moving her involves transferring from the wheelchair to a taxi.
That is just the movement. It does not include all the care and getting dressed.
My sister likes my idea of taking her out for fresh air, for a takeaway coffee, or somewhere quiet to start with.
It would give her time with Mom without just being a carer and also mean not being at home all the time.
This woman’s sister didn’t want any of the responsibility.
But my sister does not want any responsibility for it.
She does not want to help get her there and get her home.
She does not want to help with the planning.
She just wants to turn up where the taxi drops Mom off and leave when the taxi picks her up.
She couldn’t cancel the outing they planned for their mother.
I cannot cancel the outing. I also cannot go without my sister.
My Mom is excited about it after months at home.
She has only gone out for medical appointments and visiting one friend’s home.
I do not think it is fair for me to do all the work.
She then followed up by saying that next time she expects my Dad to do all the work.
So this time I am going to let her do this.
Now, she’s wondering if she could back out the next time a similar plan happened.
Going forward, can I push back? Am I a jerk if I do? Or is she for not helping?
I can see this happening again and again.
For further context, this outing was planned in person with my sister and Mom days ago.
It is for a Saturday morning. No one in the family is working that weekend.
Honestly, that sounds like a heavy load to carry alone, especially when it was meant to be a shared moment for their mom.
It’s great OP is making this outing happen, but her sister opting out of all responsibility doesn’t seem fair in the long run.

I think setting boundaries and taking turns after this is completely reasonable so she doesn’t burn out from all the caregiving tasks.
