Coming home from vacation to a leaking ceiling is bad enough on its own. Finding out the source is being deliberately blocked makes it so much worse.

One couple returned from a week away to a constantly dripping ceiling, only to discover the plumbing issue traced back to the flat directly above.

The crazy upstairs neighbor flatly denied there was any leak at all, then refused entry to the caretaker, citing an oddly specific reason about not wanting anyone in her “freshly cleaned home.”

Days of requests followed, involving landlords, building management, and eventually a full water shutoff just to force the issue.

Bizarre experience with a neighbour

We came back from a week long holiday to realize that the ceiling in a part of our house was leaking and water was dripping constantly from it.

We called the building caretaker to come take a look at it, and he concluded that there must be a problem in the plumbing of the flat above ours.

So things really started getting weird when the renters tried to talk to their neighbors.

He knocked on the door of the above flat, and the woman who lives there refused to let him into her house to check the plumbing.

When he told her about the problem we were facing, she said “there is no leak” and wouldn’t let him or his colleagues come in to check.

This woman was acting quite suspicious.

She also made some bizarre comments along the line of “I have just cleaned the house, you cannot come.”

Despite multiple attempts at making her understand, she wouldn’t agree.

Even when management got involved, the neighbor still wouldn’t budge.

The caretaker came and told us what was happening. We contacted our landlord, who in turn contacted the building management.

Despite everyone requesting her for days, she wouldn’t let the caretaker and plumber into her house to check what the issue was.

This created some serious delays in getting the issue fixed.

The caretaker had to switch off the water connection of her house, and it was only after 3-4 days, and after many words were exchanged between our landlord, the management, and possibly her landlord, that she finally gave in and allowed two (out of four) men to come in.

That too after making them wait outside her door for 5+ hours.

Seems so bizarre to me why someone would behave in this manner. Is this normal?

A leak doesn’t stop just because someone refuses to acknowledge it. Clearly this neighbor didn’t care that her repeated and unfounded refusals were just making someone else’s life a nightmare.

It finally took a full water shutoff and pressure from multiple parties just to get partial access, and even that came with a five-hour wait outside her own door.

Some neighbors would rather cause a flood than not get their way.
