It’s hard to enjoy a meal when the way it’s served makes you really uncomfortable.

One woman ran into that after her grandfather hosted a large dinner and invited around 20 men.

She assumed some of the food would be set aside for the women, but instead, they were expected to wait until the men finished eating.

Then, she realized everyone had been serving themselves directly from the trays with their dirty hands.

At that point, she decided she didn’t want any of it, and her mother got upset.

AITA for refusing to eat at the dinner?

I’m in my hometown right now, and my grandpa hosted a dinner and invited 20 men.

There were no women except for the aunts and nieces.

He bought three large trays of food.

After seeing the men eat, she wasn’t interested in the food.

I was super hungry and thought one would be for us, but unfortunately, we had to wait until after the men finished.

These men eat with their hands, meaning they served themselves with their hands directly out of the trays.

I refused to eat, and my mom got mad at me and said it was rude.

AITA?

Oh no! Most women wouldn’t want to eat after all that.

Let’s check out what the people over at Reddit think about it.

This man wouldn’t take part in all of that.

Most modern women would’ve done the same thing.

For starters, waiting for 20 men to finish eating before the women could even touch the food is pretty ridiculous and outdated.

But then, once she saw everyone reaching into the trays with their hands, it’s easy to understand why she lost her appetite.

So while her mom may think it was rude, she should never have to force herself to eat something that she’s not comfortable eating.
