His Mom Ordered Him to Sit Silently and Do Schoolwork—So He Didn’t Move as His Sibling Tore Down the Curtains

School was difficult during the COVID lockdowns, and it was especially hard on many parents.
In this story, Mom told her young son to sit at the table silently and focus on his homework, so that is just what he did.
Even while his little sibling was pulling the curtains out of the wall right next to him, he didn’t tell his mom or try to stop her because he was following her directions. Of course, when Mom came in to check on him, she was irate.
Sometimes the last thing you really want is for your kids to do exactly as they are told, but Mom really should have been watching the kids more closely. Read through the full story below and see what you think.
Do my school work and not make a noise? You got it!
So at the beginning of Covid lockdowns, my nephew (maybe 6 years old at the time) had to do school from home.
The COVID lockdowns were a weird time, that’s for sure.
But being that age he didn’t quite get it and was under the impression that if he was at home instead of actually being at school, he didn’t have to do anything.
He’d rather be doing anything else.
Sometimes you have to just force kids to do what they are told.
One particular day he was being more stubborn than usual about it, and his poor mother, who was at her wits end with him trying to get him to do his school work, while doing housechores while also trying to keep my niece (preschool age) amused.
She resorted to just telling him “Sit down, shut up and do your work”. He finally relented and sat down at the dining room table and went at it begrudgingly.
Mom should have been watching the little one more closely.
An hour or two goes by and she’s finished her chores and goes to check on him. Only to see that the youngest child has ripped the curtains of the wall, rails and all.
Not even gently either, there were chunks of plaster on the floor and because she was at the other end of the house hadn’t heard a thing!
Honestly, this could have been dangerous. But it is funny.
She goes to my nephew “Why didn’t you call me and tell me she was doing that?”.
And I kid you not, he looks her in the eye and with the straightest of faces simply says… “You told me to sit down, shut up and do my work, so I did.”
You can’t learn that, you’re born with it.
While it is certainly funny, there are some serious problems here. If the youngest child is little enough to do something like this, Mom should have been watching them more closely. And the older kid should have known that this could have been dangerous and told his mom.

Quiet kids are getting in trouble.

Mom should have been watching her kids much more closely. There is only so much you can do, though.
The kids were just being kids, but you can’t watch them every second of the day.
