Imagine working in tech support in a call center, and you have a really annoying customer on the line. Would you be annoyed or relieved if the customer asked to speak to your supervisor?

In this story, one customer asked to speak to a supervisor, but he got better than that without realizing it. He ended up speaking to the company’s owner.

He didn’t make a good impression.

Keep reading to see how the call went between the customer and the company owner.

I don’t have a manager.

I used to work for a particularly large ISP doing tech support.

One day the guy working next to me was dealing with a particularly rude business customer.

The business customers were usually treated like kings but this guy was having a particularly hard time even getting a word in.

Eventually he put up his hand to motion the supervisor come talk to the customer.

But the owner walked in.

Right then the owner of the company happened to be walking by with another one of the execs.

I’ve met the guy a few times at the company social events and he is a really down to earth employee friendly boss.

He asked what the issue was with his customer and after it was explained he took the headset and picked up the line.

He really put the customer in his place!

After listening for about 4-5 minutes he said very flatly “That’s never going to happen, especially not when you have an attitude like a 13 year old girl.”

Again listening for a minutes before he said “I don’t have a manager. I own this company and I don’t have to listen to this from a jerk like you and neither do my employees. I’m terminating your account with us.”

He hung up and I watched him disable this guys account and add a note to the file. “Customer is an a jerk. Do not reinstate account – Boss”. Then he just handed back the headset and carried on about his day.

Wow! That customer was certainly unlucky to end up speaking to the company owner! There’s certainly no supervisor to talk to in that case. But, wow! The owner sure put the customer (I mean, former customer) in his place!

Let’s see how Reddit responded.

That boss was definitely awesome!

Another person loves the story.

This person loves what the boss did.

This person claims their story is similar, but I don’t really think it is.

What makes this story different is that the boss isn’t just a boss. He isn’t just a manager or a supervisor. He’s the actual company owner. He can do whatever he wants. The decision stops with him. The customer has nobody else to turn to.

I bet the customer would’ve been nicer if he’d realized who he was talking to.
