When you work in a computer repair shop, it is very common to have to fix printer problems, and for the most part, it is pretty easy.

What would you do if you had a customer calling to get you to dispatch to her home to fix a paper jam on a simple desktop printer?

That is what happened in this story, so the technician told her it would cost twice as much money for the dispatch than it would to buy a new printer. Despite that, she insisted that they come out to fix the problem.

Some people just don’t listen and they don’t mind wasting their money. Read through the full story below and see what you think of what is happening.

Well, when you make me take your money…

$Jam spoke in broken English at best on a terrible phone line, but I eventually made out that she found us on yelp and that we did printers.

Printers are always causing problems.

Yes, I said, we do indeed do printers, and what was hers doing that required my services?

After several false starts, $Jam finally found the words “paper jam”. When I inquired about the model, she indicated a basic desktop inkjet printer – around 60 bucks brand new.

Having a technician come out to a site is always expensive.

She told me she’d tried several times but it was really “accordioned” in there and she couldn’t get it out.

Then she asked if I did onsite work. Yes, I said again. But it’s cheaper if you bring it to me. Like, a lot cheaper.

He is really trying to keep her from wasting her money.

Our onsite rate starts at $150 an hour. Shop rates start at $95 and I’m usually willing to pro-rate for simple projects and I can find amazing excuses to discount even more if you’re nice to me.

Nope. $Jam wants the onsite. I pointed out that she could find videos on you tube of clearing paper jams from printers. I pointed out that if she’d lost her manual, she could download a new one from HP and it will show her how to open it up and clear the paper out.

Wow, she really just wants someone to come out.

Nope. $Jam wants to know what’s the soonest I can get there.

I pointed out that she could get two printers – three on sale – for the cost of the trip. Nope. She’s insistent now.

Hey, if she wants to pay for it, they will take the money.

I called $Boss to tell him to schedule the onsite. He thought I was joking.

Nope. He’s headed out to remove a single sheet of jammed paper from an HP desk jet printer tomorrow at 9:30am.

I mean, when they shove their credit card into my hands…

Some people just can’t be reasoned with. If they want to waste their money, that is just fine.

Let’s see what the people in the comments have to say about this story.

This would be too funny.

Now this is just too funny.

Some people shouldn’t use electronics.

She just won’t listen.

Yeah, there might be other issues.

She really didn’t understand how expensive this was going to be. That being said, at least if someone comes out, you know that the printer will work when they leave.

If she buys a new printer, she has to set it all up, and she might do it wrong.
