Is this normal behavior?

Is it considered appropriate in France to film other people while they eat in public?

Because there’s no way that’s gonna fly in the good ol’ USA!

That’s what a woman and her husband dealt with in Paris and she explained why she was caught off guard by this strange situation.

Woman would not stop recording us during lunch.

“I recently went to Paris with my husband (we are American), and something truly bizarre happened while out at a restaurant for lunch.

We were sitting at a small table, with me sitting on a bench against the wall, and my husband on the chair across from me. We had ordered our food and were chatting, when a family of 4 (husband, wife, child, and grandma), arrived to sit at the table next to us.

The husband and wife took the two chairs, while the child and grandma sat on the bench next to me, with the grandma closest to me.

Hmmm…

Weirdly, when sitting, the grandma stayed right next to me on the bench, meaning she did not “scoot” to go to her seat by their table, but instead was sitting very close to me.

I thought maybe she needed extra time but no, she just stayed there and after a moment took out her phone and started recording my husband and I while we chatted.

How bizarre!

I did not want to make a big deal but it was just so weird, she kept recording us as we talked about whatever mundane thing for like 5 minutes.

She then stopped (but did not move to her seat, just staying on her phone close to me) and then when our food came she started recording us again as we ate!

It truly was so strange.

I do not understand why she wanted to record that?

She also took a million pictures and videos of her and her family at the restaurant, but I do not understand why she recorded us, like it was not that interesting.”
