If you had a neighbor who used to seem friendly and normal but suddenly started doing some pretty weird, crazy and even disturbing things, what would you do?

In this story, one couple thought their next door neighbor was a friendly older lady, but then her behavior started to concern them. The crazier things got, the more worried they became, and when they found out she wasn’t taking her medication, they started worrying about her safety and their own safety.

My neighbor is running around unclothed in the middle of the night.

My boyfriend and moved into a townhome not too long ago.

The neighbor that we share a front porch with was really welcoming and friendly from the start. She’s an older woman in her 60s who lives alone with her dog but has frequent visitors.

The beginning of this month (about two weeks into mandated shelter in place), I saw her on our side of the porch looking peering into our window.

My boyfriend went to go see what she wanted, a cup of sugar…okay sure.

Yikes! This neighbor sounds crazy!

We have one of those doorbells with security cameras and over the course of the next few weeks we can see that she frequently goes out on the porch and talks to herself angrily, violently kicks and punches the air, and sometimes picks off the flowers from our front lawn.

She asked for sugar again, after pounding on our screen door and trying to open it herself.

Whenever we go out the front door or back gate, so does she, and speaks to us aggressively and nonsensically.

After one of these encounters, she flipped off my boyfriend and made a motion of cutting her neck with her finger to me.

Uh-oh!

Her sister went up to us and warned us that our neighbor is no longer taking her medication.

She didn’t elaborate, but we assumed that our neighbor has some sort of mental illness and became sympathetic.

When checking the security footage this morning from the night before, we could see that in the middle of the night she went out on the porch completely unclothed more than once.

One of those times, she was yelling out rude slurs, but it looked like no one was around.

They’re both pretty worried.

We realized that she could really harm herself, and did a little Google search to try to find the sister’s phone number, which leads us to public records citing that our neighbor had been arrested a few days ago for a DUI for drugs and alcohol.

She’s progressively getting worse.

I’m concerned for our safety as well as hers.

I’m not sure if I should call the police, APS, HOA, her sister, or what but we do not want to aggravate the situation.

Yikes! What’s the best way to handle this situation before someone gets hurt?

Here’s a suggestion to call the police.

That sounds so scary! I wonder why the neighbor stopped taking her medication. Is she having trouble affording it, or does she think she doesn’t need it? She clearly needs it.

I hope they can find a way to get the neighbor the help she needs before she hurts someone.
