Her Neighbor Complained About Her Kids Being Loud Every Evening—But She Told Them to Deal With It

When you live in an apartment building, you have to expect that you will hear your neighbors from time to time.

What would you do if your neighbors pounded on the walls when your kids were playing loudly, so you did the same when they were making noise later in the evening?

That is what happened to the family in this story, so she went and confronted the neighbors the next day. When they said that her kids are very loud, she just told them that kids will be kids and to get over it, but she wonders if she is in the wrong.

Personally, I think she handled this very poorly and that it will likely cause further problems. Read through the full story below and see if you agree.

AITA for confronting my new neighbor’s?

Let me preface this by stating that I am not a drama queen. I keep to myself.

Just how loud were these kids being?

I already have a problem with the new neighbors because my kids are being kids (3, 4, and 5). We live in housing, and the apartments are all connected.

My kids were chasing each other around the living room, and the new neighbor banged on the living room wall. It was only 8:30pm.

Two wrongs don’t make a right.

Yet, it’s okay for them to wait until 10:00pm for them to bang upstairs, when my kids are sleeping?

I knocked on the door to confront them. What a great way to meet for the first time. Lmao.

Well, they are actually talking. That is good.

Anyway, I ask why they banged on the wall, and this is how this short Convo went:

Me: Knocks on the door “May I ask why you banged on the wall?”

Her: “Because your kids are so loud, running around in your living room”

Why not at least try to keep the kids quieter, within reason?

Me: Okay, well it’s only 8:30, and they are just kids, and kids have the right to play in their house, even if it consists of them running in the living room”

Her: Well, we’re trying to watch a movie, and I can hear them over the movie”

Me: “Turn the volume up? Idk what to tell ya. You are upstairs at 10:30 at night, banging on the wall. I’m sure you could wait until morning for that nonsense.”

Honestly, I can see why she is frustrated.

They were probably getting it in, but that’s not the point. Move your bed away from the wall, like wow.

Her: “They do it everyday early in the morning, too!”

Me: “Yep, they are children, and the wake up early in the morning. I’ve been here for almost 4 years, and you are the only person who ever complained about my kids.”

This conversation isn’t going anywhere.

Her: Slams door in my face 😂

Like, if you don’t wanna hear it, you should move out, just as fast as you moved in. My kids are in school, so we are all up at like 7, even on the weekend.

Kids do well with routines.

My kids stick to routine, like it’s gum on the bottom of a shoe.

So, was I wrong for confronting them?

AITA?

She wasn’t wrong for confronting them, but the way she acted was pretty rude and will likely lead to an escalation of the conflict.

Let’s see if the people in the comments have anything constructive to say.

Exactly what are the kids doing?

You can’t expect silence while living in an apartment.

This person says that both neighbors acted poorly.

You have to be patient when living in an apartment.

They were both acting immaturely.

Both of these neighbors could have handled themselves better. After this interaction, I have a feeling that things will only get worse.

It is unfortunate, but that is the way these conflicts often go.
