There’s nothing quite like living with a dirty roommate.

I’m talking about someone who can’t be bothered to ever lift a finger to help keep the place tidied up.

I’m not sure how people are happy living like that, but I’m on the opposite end of the spectrum, so it would drive me nuts!

The guy who wrote this story has had enough of his disgusting roommate and he’s thinking about taking some action about this scoundrel.

“I (M29) am living with two people (W26 and M24).

The star of this show is the M24 – let’s call him Hassan.

Ever since Hassan moved in with us he has been a terrible roommate.

Let’s go down the list…

He stole food from us but denied everything. He did not do his part of the household work for months at a time, he smoked weed despite our strict no-drugs policy (we explicitly included weed in that) and just generally behaved like someone who is used to being pampered by their parents.

Further, he tried to scam us out of his part of the rent multiple times by either not paying it at all or not paying the right amount, hoping we would not notice. We have been trying for the better part of a year to seek conversations with him and voice our grievances.

And even though he promised to be better every single time, he never followed through on those promises.

They had enough of this joker.

A couple weeks ago we decided we had enough and asked him to move out. The straw that broke the camel’s back was him inviting a friend of his to live with us for half a month without even mentioning it to us beforehand, let alone asking us about if we were fine with that person staying.

He did not take this well. We agreed that he would have two months time to find a new place and could continue to stay with us until then.

Needless to say, the situation has become quite strained.

This guy is a HUGE creep.

He tried – unsuccessfully – to scam us out of his share of the rent again. But the real kicker and the reason I am writing this post revealed itself today.

Our flat has a balcony which I have not used in a long time – in fact, Hassan has pretty much exclusively used it for months – but today was the day I decided I wanted to freshen the place up a bit and make it nice and cozy again.

I was not prepared for how much of a mess it would be, though. My unused flower-pots with leftover soil were filled with cigarette butts and coffee grounds.

Gross!

The ground was littered with trash. Our rain-drainage was stuffed with cigarette butts to the point that water could not drain.

I want to confront Hassan about this and ask him to clean our balcony himself.

Considering his history of avoiding responsibilities and treating this place like a dump though, I have little hope of him agreeing to this – and if he does agree, to actually go through with it.

He now has only one month left until he moves out and I think he would much rather just wait out his time.

Would I be a jerk if I hired a professional cleaning person and charged him for it?”
