Ahhhhh, the classic family dog story.
Kids want dog.
Kids beg for dog.
Parents say no.
Kids beg some more.
Parents finally give in…but there’s a catch…
They refuse to take care of the dog and make the kids do all the work.
It’s a tale as old as time itself!
The woman who wrote this story is living it, and she’s not about to let her kids turn the tables on her and make her walk the pooch on cold, early mornings.
Let’s take a look at what she had to say.
AITA for refusing to walk the dog in the mornings?
“We got a puppy.
The kids and spouse wore me down even though I am not a dog person and didn’t want another living thing in the house to take care of.
She was clear about this…
The one condition I made is that I would never be in charge of the dog or pick up its poop.
6 years later, and I have never had to. I would never neglect the dog, but my kids and spouse have been good about taking care of him.
I spent years walking with my kids including in the cold dark winter mornings at 6 am until they were old enough to walk the dog alone.
I enjoyed walking and getting one on one time with my kids. I often still walk with kids or spouse when they are walking the dog.
This school year, my work schedule has changed and I will have over an hour alone after kids and spouse leave for high school/work.
Spouse leaves at 6:45, kids at 7 and I leave at 8:15.
Not gonna happen!
My kids think I should walk him alone after they leave so they don’t have to get up as early to get ready for school.
My spouse is staying quiet as they never did morning walking duty and is the main care taker of the dog otherwise.
AITA for holding to our original agreement and refusing to walk the dog alone in the morning?”

I love that she’s sticking to her guns about this!
Tough love, people…
It’s what makes the world go ’round.
She’s teaching these darn kids some responsibility!
