One thing is clear. Nobody is a mind reader. Sometimes it would be nice if we could communicate what’s important to us without actually saying words, but that’s often not possible. While body language can speak volumes, when the person you’re angry at can’t even see you, body language doesn’t come into play either.
In this story, one woman is upset with her neighbors; however, she hasn’t even seen them or tried talking to them. She’s introverted and would prefer not to talk to them.
Yet, she has a problem she needs to solve.
Keep reading for all the details.
New to the Neighborhood…
Just moved into a 1 level condo I am renting with neighbors on both sides of me.
I briefly met the neighbors to my right & see them out on their porch or walking the dog occasionally.
I have never spoke to or seen the neighbor on my left…
There’s a big problem.
The neighbor of the left has bright LED/solar lights set up around the back of their condo that glare into my bedroom… the ones pointing & shining directly into my room are located on my side of the rental property…
I know, I should probably just knock and ask them to move them… or leave a kind note. However, I am really non-confrontational and an introvert who doesn’t like talking to people I know, let alone strangers, specifically for this reason…
So, one night – I went out and moved one (there are 3 on my side) to face away from my window…
But the solution didn’t last.
A couple days later, it was adjusted back to pointing my way.
So that night, I went out again and gave it a complete 180.
It stayed like that for an additional night and now is pointing back toward my bedroom.
The big question is what to do next.
My next thought was to
(1) move it one more time AND THEN proceed with option (2) or (3) anyway…. Or just skip to:
(2) place cardboard in front of all 3 lights on my side to block the light
(3) remove them & place them on their side OR in the trash
Am I petty? AITAH? I thought maaaaaaayyybbbeee they would catch on…. I’m not trying to be the Karen on the block but damn
I understand that OP is an introvert who doesn’t like talking to people, but the neighbors aren’t mind readers. If talking is too hard, maybe she could try writing a note asking if the lights could be pointed a different direction. I definitely don’t think she should throw the neighbor’s lights away!
Let’s see what Reddit suggests.
This person thinks she should’ve talked to the neighbor right away.
Another person offers a suggestion of what to say to the neighbor.
This person thinks she created a bigger problem.
If you enjoyed this story, check out this post about a neighbor who was angry after coming home to a surprise hole in their fence.
But another person seems to encourage her to mess with the lights again.
If she really doesn’t want to talk to the neighbor, could she just get some blackout curtains? Really good blackout curtains make a room dark in the middle of the day, so they should work to block out bright lights at night.
There’s more than one way to solve this problem.
