What would you do if someone parked in your front yard? Would you try to talk to them nicely about it and resolve the problem in a neighborly way, or would you call a tow truck?

In this story, one renter is in this situation, and he called his landlord first. Then he talked to the neighbors.

The problem continues, and he’s not sure how to handle it.

Parking in our front yard?

I’m currently renting a house and there is a group of college boys next door.

I’ve tolerated a lot of their behavior, like blasting loud music for 7 hours straight, cans from their parties in my yard, etc., but they also seem to think it’s acceptable to park in my front yard.

Their driveway is on the right side of my house and they have plenty of parking spaces, but they typically end up parking in the grass.

There is a sign that clearly states that parking in the grass is not allowed. Not only is this a rule of my landlord’s, it’s a law in my city.

The problem has gotten worse.

This afternoon, I noticed that someone had parked on the grass pulled up enough that it’s literally in my front yard.

I double checked with my landlord to make sure it’s actually a problem before I said anything, and when he confirmed, I knocked on the door and asked them to move their car.

He said he would, but it’s been over a half hour since I asked and the car is still in my front yard.

At this point, I’m wondering what my next steps should be. I didn’t want to call someone without talking to them initially, but this seems ridiculous at this point. Any advice?

He should call a tow truck.

Let’s see if Reddit agrees.

This person would let the landlord handle it.

Another person would blame the landlord.

This person would call the police.

Here’s another suggestion.

Setting up a barricade of some sort would be a good long term solution, but the problem right now is that there’s still a car in the front yard.

Calling a tow truck is the obvious thing to do, but if OP doesn’t want the neighbors to know he’s the one who called the tow truck, it is an interesting idea to blame it on the landlord and act like he’s being helpful.

His neighbors are awful, and he needs to stop letting it go.
