Changing your name should be the easy part, it’s getting everyone else to catch up that takes forever.
One woman spent over a year finally getting her family comfortable using a new name she’d chosen for herself after years of disliking her original name.
Her mom struggled with it at first, treating the change like a personal rejection, but eventually came around.
Then her sister had a baby, and instead of using her new name around him, she kept defaulting to the old one, risking it sticking for good as the baby grew older.

WIBTAH If I Asked My Sister To Change What She Calls Me To Her Baby
Over a year ago, I changed my name. Basically, it’s as if I changed my name from July to June, it’s only off by two letters.
I changed it because I really hated my name my whole life, and when I got married and was changing my last name, I seized the opportunity to change my whole name.
Her family wasn’t on board with the change at first.
My mom was unhappy because she named me and felt as though it was an attack on a personal choice she made as a mom.
After about a year, she’s a little bit better at calling me by my new name.
But soon her sister started putting up a fight too.
Seven months ago, my sister had a baby, and she insists on using my old name.
I really want to ask her to stop doing that and call me by my new name since he’s still so young, before the name sticks when he gets older.
She felt like now was the perfect time to make a change, but no one else is cooperating.
I have a nephew who is 6, and I felt like I couldn’t ask my other sister to change the name he calls me because he’ll get confused, so I’m stuck being called by my old name by her.
WIBTA for asking my sister to change the name she calls me to her baby?
Her family should really respect her decision.
What did Reddit have to say?
It’s probably easier to get her young nephew on her side than she might think.

Kids tend to be a little more openminded about this kind of thing.

Teachers are a prime example.

Watching your mom slowly come around to your name change is one thing. Watching your sister actively work against that progress with a brand-new baby is another thing entirely.
At a certain point, it becomes a choice to keep saying the wrong name, even after being corrected countless times.
Asking her sister to respect her preferences shouldn’t be this difficult.
