She Covered the Entire $380 Electric Bill After Her Roommate Ghosted for Three Weeks—Now She’s Counting Down the Days to Lease Exit

Living with a roommate is hard enough sometimes. But when you don’t get along with them, it gets even harder.
In today’s story, we’ll meet a woman who is more than ready for her lease to be over.
She and her roommate don’t see eye to eye on much, and utilities have been one of the bigger issues between them.
So, when her roommate left the country for three weeks, she was actually looking forward to having the place to herself for a while.
Then she got a message saying the electricity bill might not have been paid and she could end up without power. And when she finally checked the account, she found an overdue bill that she ended up paying herself.

My roommate really ****** me off today. She went off to China with her parents for 3 weeks, which has been a blessing for me.
She doesn’t cook or clean and just sits around watching shows on her computer and venting about work. She’s kinda controlling when it comes to the water and electricity.
I told her twice the water is allocated, and I can only control my portion. Before, she worried me to death about not using too much electricity, but ***** because I need to wash my clothes and charge my phone.
It’s to the point that the roommate is telling conflicting stories.
Yesterday, she texted me while I was at work, saying that the electricity bill was due and she wasn’t sure if the payment went through because she doesn’t have internet wherever she is. She told me if it wasn’t paid, I might have to go stay somewhere else.
I asked if I could check with her information, but then she said she didn’t have it and claimed the bill was paid.
Today, I get a text from her brother asking on her behalf to check if the bill was paid, and he sends me her account information that I guess she sent to him. It turns out the bill wasn’t paid.
Because it was late, she had to pay more.
It was originally $148, but because the bill was late, it ended up being $181, and I paid the whole thing myself. Even though she claimed she would pay me back, that’s not my issue. The electricity is her responsibility.
I feel like she could have gone somewhere like a cafe to access the internet and pay the bill. She has the electricity in her name, and I pay her my half on time every time the bill is due.
I have her blocked on my phone because I don’t have the energy to talk to her.
Our lease is up in May, and I’m just counting the days.
Yikes. This situation would be enough to make anyone angry.

For now, keeping proof of every payment is probably the best thing she can do until that lease is finally over.
