Friendship comes with give and take, but some requests hit a line people just aren’t willing to cross.

A woman offered to accompany her friend and her three-month-old baby on an hour-long drive to a new cafe, only to be told upon arrival that she’d be the one driving instead.

With a newer license and genuine anxiety about the sheer responsibility of driving an infant on unfamiliar highways, she declined and offered to sit in the back with the baby as an alternative.

But instead of being understanding, her friend blew up on her, accusing her, of all things, of not being a “team player.”

You’ll want to keep reading for this one.

AITAH for refusing to drive my friends infant?

My 22F close friend 22F has a 3 month old baby. The father isn’t in the picture, so you can imagine it’s been rough for her. I’ve been doing my best to be a good friend and help her out, I only live a 10 minute drive from her.

The drama first started when the two made plans to hang out.

My friend and I made plans to go to a new cafe that’s around an hour away from our houses. The plan was for me to meet at her house and for us to drive together with the baby.

That’s when her friend makes a suggestion she isn’t fully comfortable with, so she speaks up.

I get to her house and she basically tells me I’m going to drive.

I kind of froze for a second thinking about it before telling her I didn’t feel comfortable with that.

She further explains her stance.

I’ve only had my license for under 2 years (yes I got it late) and I don’t even feel fully comfortable driving around my 13 year old niece. I do it sometimes but I’m anxious the whole time. Especially for an hour drive on highways.

She starts thinking about all the terrible things that could happen.

Especially to a town I’ve never driven to. God forbid something happens and then the baby’s injuries or worse are on me. I have anxiety and am in therapy.

Her friend didn’t understand where she was coming from at all.

She started arguing, saying she needed to sit in the back with the baby. I offered to sit in the back with him but she wasn’t hearing it. She was getting madder, so finally I just said maybe we can go another time.

She agreed and I went home. I felt bad but again, I’m not comfortable at all driving with a child that young.

But her friend’s guilt trip didn’t end there.

She sent me a text this morning saying that I’m selfish and not a team player. She said I acted like a child. I sent a text back saying I’m sorry and explaining again my anxieties towards it. She hasn’t responded.

But she’s quick to point out that her friend isn’t the only one going through something right now.

I know she’s dealing with a lot and is stressed, but this feels unfair. I have done a lot for her these past few months.

I also kind of don’t understand because she goes out a lot with just her and the baby, so he rides alone in the backseat often.

She starts to wonder whether she’s making the right call by drawing a hard line on this.

I told my boyfriend and he says I did nothing wrong and was correct to hold to my boundaries. But he’s also my boyfriend and is probably partial to me.

So AITAH for not driving with an infant?

Sounds like a completely fair line to draw.

What did Reddit have to say?

Refusing to respect someone’s boundaries just isn’t cool.

This commenter also can’t understand why her friend is behaving this way.

Doesn’t this friend want the people around her to be mindful of her child’s safety?

At the end of the day, she’s right to exercise her personal boundaries.

This friend seemed to expect blind compliance instead of an honest conversation about comfort and safety.

Asking someone with barely two years of driving experience to handle an unfamiliar highway route with a three-month-old is a real responsibility. That’s not something you just gloss over.

This situation needed understanding, not a petty ultimatum.
