Office conversations can become exhausting when you hear the same topic over and over again.
The following story involves an employee who was getting tired of her coworker constantly talking about his strict diet every morning at work.
She noticed that he would spend about 10 to 15 minutes daily just to talk about what he ate and how many calories it had.
She wanted to ask him to keep the diet talk shorter, but worried if this would offend him
If it were you, would you confront him about it? Read the full story below for all the details.
WIBTA if I asked my coworker to stop talking about their diet every single day
I work in a small open office, and there’s this guy named Michael who has recently gone on a very strict diet.
Every morning, he arrives and gives a full rundown of what he ate the night before.
He also shares how many calories it had and why it was better than what anyone else might be eating.
It usually lasts ten to fifteen minutes, and by the time he’s done, the whole team has heard it.
It’s gotten to the point where I find myself dreading the start of the day.
This employee was planning to confront Michael.
I’m thinking about just saying, politely but directly, that maybe he could save the diet talk for outside the office.
Or at least keep it short.
The thing is, I worry that would come off as rude or unsupportive.
Especially since he’s clearly proud of the progress he’s making.
The last time someone tried to change the subject, he looked kind of hurt and just waited for another opening.
But she doesn’t know how or when to do it.
Michael’s view would probably be that he’s only sharing because the team asked how things were going once.
And now he assumes we all want updates.
He might say it’s a harmless conversation topic and that if it bothers me, I can just tune it out.
I’m still debating whether speaking up would make me the one being difficult.
It sounds like Michael is really just proud of his progress.
But turning the office into his daily diet diary could understandably get annoying really quickly.
I think OP wouldn’t be wrong to politely ask him to keep the updates shorter.
Let’s find out what others have to say about this.
Here’s a suggestion.

15 minutes a day is too much, says this one.
