Is it important to be a good neighbor?
Yes.
Is it a good idea to lend a helping hand to the folks who live around you when they need it?
Absolutely!
But, let’s get real: there’s a good chance that you’re not going to really like ALL your neighbors.
It’s just not possible!
And that’s okay…even though it can lead to some awkward situations.
In today’s story, a woman talked about two of her neighbors who she’s just simply not into…and, to be fair, they do sound pretty awful.
Check out what she had to say!
Being invited to neighborhood cookouts is exhausting!
“I absolutely despise these events. Every conversation tends to feel forced.
Maybe it goes without saying, we are a very introverted couple. Our daughter is also very introverted.
There is one couple in the neighborhood that we enjoy being around, actually the host, and others who are just downright pretentious and loud.
We have neighbors from a variety of socioeconomic means. For instance, in our case, I grew up in this neighborhood, I live in the family home , when my parents passed on, we chose to try and keep it in the family in spite of complete gentrification of our area.
This sounds like a tough situation.
It’s hard to afford living here due to the recent boom in new residents from all over the nation, most of them are retired. On the other hand, my husband and I both still work, and we work very hard.
We love the hosts, they are very kind and humble folks when we are around them, but there is one particular couple who always come to these events. They moved to the area about 3 years ago, they come from affluent backgrounds and have ample financial means.
These folks sound insufferable.
They are very loud about their political opinions, their money and their religious beliefs. They often make comments about our daughter who is autistic, she is 20, in college, and doing very well, right here, close to home.
They comment on how she should be dating or married and should already have kids, instead of being in school. Every comment from the wife feels like backhanded compliments, from my physical appearance to my daughter’s weight.
She loves to tell everyone how smart she is and how her IQ is incredibly high.
Yuck…
Well, congratulations, thank you for telling everyone how you think you are the most brilliant person in the group, but if she’s so dang smart, why can she not read my face, and see that her opinions are unwelcome?
I just find this particular couple insufferable.
My husband and I are trying to renovate, slowly, and as funds allow.
Jeez, give it a rest!
Somehow, when we are outside, or at these functions, the conversations always seems to shift into what they believe we need to fix on the house next, how my husband isn’t getting my kitchen remodeled fast enough, how my bathrooms are small, or how they could never live like we live.
They offer unsolicited opinions on virtually every aspect of our lives from the outside looking in and I find that incredibly rude.
On the other hand, the couple hosting use to own a farm, the husband still works, the wife just retired and they are absolutely delightful. They also have quite a bit of wealth, but they aren’t flashy, they don’t flaunt it or behave as if they are better, smarter or richer than anyone.
It’s not that hard to get along with people!
Those are the kind of people we enjoy, I don’t care who they voted for, what they have, or how smart they are, both of them came from very humble beginnings and have managed to work incredibly hard to get what they have.
That, I admire!
I had already RSVP’d when I found out the other family was coming, had I known, I probably would have found an excuse to avoid this.
Am I overly sensitive?
I would never be rude to the host and I would never make a scene, but I have a low tolerance for nonsense, especially when it comes to someone critiquing my daughter or husband.
We have never been around the two couples together, I sincerely hope the behavior pretentious couple doesn’t bring out something in the hosts that alters my opinion of them.”

You can’t blame her for not liking these folks!
They sound like a real handful!
Hey, you can’t get along with everyone…
It sounds like nobody would enjoy hanging out with these folks…
