Woman Quit Her Restaurant Job After Dealing With Terrible Managers And A Disgusting Workplace

Sometimes, you just get a vibe…
Specifically, I’m referring to BAD vibes that you get when you start a new job and you realize right away that things are…off.
I’ve been there before and it’s not a good feeling!
But the good news is that you can always bail if you get that bad juju and you don’t want to work at a place anymore.
The woman who wrote today’s story didn’t last too long at a new restaurant job because she just KNEW that it wasn’t a good fit.

Quit a job after one week due to poor management and nonexistent health/safety practices.
“Last week I started working at my new job at a cafe.
The first day was fine. I wasn’t being trained on their menu or working behind the counter, it was more of an orientation, but the second day is when it all went to hell.
Gross!
I realized that they hardly followed any health and safety rules.
They don’t use sanitizer buckets for rags, and those rags would only be replaced at the end of the day for the morning shift. They don’t sanitize any of the blenders, pitchers or utensils, it all just got rinsed off.
Nothing is date marked, even the raw meats in the fridge/freezer. One of the fridges that holds desserts has an electronic thermometer that constantly reads 41-45 degrees. They will defrost fruits or hardened sauces in hot water.
Literally just a billion hazards.
But wait, there’s more!
I was also being micromanaged by my “trainer” on how many squirts of cleaner I used to wipe down tables.
When I was washing and drying my hands with a paper towel and then turning off the sink with said paper towel, I was reprimanded for wasting water.
The two owners want some things done different ways and get upset when you do it the other’s way. The owners and the trainer had no concept of personal space, they were stepping on me/bumping into me and not saying excuse me.
My boss would text me 30 minutes before my shift telling me to make sure I get there early. I was also hired to work full time, and my first schedule had me for 43 hours and 6 days out of the week.
I told my boss that I need two days off and so for the new schedule I was put on for 3 days and all closing shifts (She knows at this point I’m not available to close).
She was over it almost immediately!
Honestly after my first real day I was applying for other jobs. At a previous job I literally led a couple health and safety walk outs, I have zero tolerance for any nonsense like this.
I called out earlier this week because I had an interview. Then yesterday I went back to work. There was some really bad weather and my boss called and said we were going to close early.
I begin closing procedures. A light in the ceiling begins leaking water. I call her and she just tells me to put a bucket under it. This whole shift I’m just debating on walking out. Then the other owner comes in and asks why I’m closing.
He then calls the other owner and tells me we aren’t closing early. I go to clean the machine and there’s no cleaning tablets, which they knew about because they’ve been saying we’ve been running out and it wasn’t in the order ever since I started working here a week ago.
My boss just tells me he’ll finish it and I go to clock out. I’m not sure what he could’ve done to clean it, but whatever. He then asks me a question about inventory after I’ve clocked out. He starts walking to the back and I book it out of there.
It sounds like she’s done with this place…
I was supposed to work today but I just texted that I had a family emergency and can’t come in. The owner called me unprofessional. I didn’t respond. I’m debating whether or not to call them in a few days to let them know I’m quitting or just ghost them.
The thing is I wouldn’t do this at a job that doesn’t suck. For the first time I didn’t feel bad for calling off because I have another job lined up.
They put me in this position because, HOW are you not following basic health procedures?
