Birthdays are one of those times when people usually don’t mind buying someone a drink.

For one woman, though, asking a couple of friends to do exactly that ended up causing problems with her boyfriend.

She had gone out for karaoke shortly after her birthday and asked two friends if they’d buy her a drink.

At the time, she didn’t think much of it.

But the next day, her boyfriend told her he thought it was inappropriate and even said he was embarrassed by her.

AITA for asking my friends to buy me drinks on my birthday

On Sunday, I went to karaoke.

A friend of mine was visiting from out of town, and my birthday had just passed this Friday.

I asked two of my friends to buy me drinks for my birthday, and one acquaintance offered me one.

The next day, her boyfriend confronted her about how she had acted.

My boyfriend the next day said that it was inappropriate to ask that, he was embarrassed by me, and that he, quote, “is worried about us.”

I actually got pretty sick that night, and he told me he felt like he was babysitting.

I’ve drank around him and with friends before plenty of times, and now suddenly he’s telling me it’s weird to ask people to buy drinks for your birthday.

AITA?

Eek! It’s easy to see both sides of this, but her boyfriend may be onto something.
